Course overview
Predictions about the future of finance have a poor record, mostly because they extrapolate the loudest current trend. What can be done more usefully is to look at the forces already visible in balance sheets, regulation and operating models, and to reason carefully about what they imply.
This course covers seven units: the changing landscape of financial management, digital transformation in finance, sustainable finance, digital assets and investment innovation, global investment trends, leading financial transformation, and an honest outlook. It is educational and is not financial or investment advice, and no asset or strategy is recommended.
What is actually changing
Three things with real evidence behind them. First, the finance function's work is shifting from producing numbers to explaining them, as reporting automates and the demand for decision support rises. Second, disclosure obligations have expanded well beyond financial statements, particularly on sustainability, and they carry legal exposure for claims the data does not support. Third, capital has moved: private markets, passive vehicles and non-bank lenders now occupy space that banks and public equity once held.
Around those sit genuinely uncertain developments, including digital assets and artificial intelligence in decision making, where the honest position is that some use cases have proven themselves and many have not.
Course objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Scan the forces reshaping finance, from rates to regulation.
- Reskill finance staff as transactional work is automated.
- Modernize the finance operating model on evidence of value.
- Streamline transactional processing and the data behind it.
- Prepare a finance function for sustainability obligations.
- Adopt digital assets only where the operational case holds.
- Adapt funding plans as capital migrates to private markets.
- Sequence transformation so data precedes process and tools.
- Champion a change agenda through the people problem that decides it.
- Foresee regulatory and technological change before it lands.

How the course is delivered
The course works from evidence: company disclosures, regulatory texts, transformation post-mortems, market data and documented failures. Participants argue about which trends the evidence supports, and worked examples take reporting and valuation implications through step by step. The course is educational and is not financial or investment advice, and it does not certify participants. Participants who want the macroeconomic backdrop in more depth should look at Global Economic Trends and Market Forecasting.
Who should attend
- Finance directors, CFOs and senior finance managers planning ahead.
- Investment professionals and allocators assessing structural change.
- Transformation, strategy and technology leads working with finance functions.
- Board members and executives responsible for financial strategy.

Frequently asked questions
Is this course speculative?
It is deliberately evidence-led. Where something is uncertain, the course says so and examines what would have to be true for each outcome, instead of asserting a prediction.
Does it recommend investing in digital assets?
No. Digital assets are covered as subject matter, including the failures. Nothing in the course is investment advice or a recommendation of any asset.
Is it useful for a traditional finance team with no transformation plans?
Yes, particularly the reporting, sustainability and skills content, which affects finance functions whether or not they have a transformation initiative underway.
