Course overview

Quality assurance in manufacturing is the difference between catching defects at the end of the line and preventing them at the source. The first approach is expensive and unreliable; the second builds quality into the process itself. This course explains how leading manufacturers achieve the second through standards, process control, and a culture that treats quality as everyone's job.

The focus is on the methods that prevent defects and reduce variation: recognized quality standards, statistical process control, structured problem-solving, and continuous improvement. It treats quality assurance as a management system supported by data, not as a final inspection gate.

Why quality assurance matters

Poor quality is costly in ways that rarely appear on a single line of the accounts: scrap and rework, warranty claims, recalls, lost customers, and the management time spent firefighting. Much of this comes from process variation that a final inspection can detect but never prevent.

Assuring quality means controlling the process so defects do not occur, and improving the process when they do. Manufacturers that master this spend less on failure, ship more reliably, and build the reputation that wins repeat business. This course is about building that capability.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Specify what conformance means for a single measurable feature.
  • Standardize the quality system against a recognized framework.
  • Monitor a machine for drift and act only on real signals.
  • Qualify a new setup before it produces sellable parts.
  • Contain suspect stock before it reaches the next operation.
  • Restore stability after an adjustment makes variation worse.
  • Inspect incoming supplier lots before they enter assembly.
  • Stop a run on evidence rather than on a single reading.

Course outline

Unit 1: Introduction to quality assurance in manufacturing

  • Dimensions, finishes, and tolerances on a single part.
  • A batch that reached final inspection and was scrapped.
  • Prevention at the machine instead of detection at the end.
  • Bore diameter that drifted outside tolerance on one shift.

Unit 2: International standards and compliance

  • The ISO 9001 framework behind a production quality system.
  • Process approach judged at the machine, not in the binder.
  • Control plans and drawings the customer audits against.
  • Gauge calibration and traceable measurement records.

Unit 3: Process control and defect prevention

  • Statistical process control as a stop or adjust decision.
  • Capability indices such as Cpk against a stated tolerance.
  • Ways a part can fail, ranked before the first run.
  • Mistake-proofing a station so the wrong part will not fit.

Unit 4: Continuous improvement tools

  • Defects traced back to the machine setting that made them.
  • Disposition of parts built before the defect showed.
  • Improvement methods drawn from lean and Six Sigma, alongside Industrial Engineering and Productivity Improvement.
  • Measuring whether improvements hold.

Unit 5: Building a culture of quality excellence

  • Giving the operator the authority to stop a running line.
  • Response owed to the operator in the next fifteen minutes.
  • Supplier quality and the extended chain.
  • Locking a corrected setting so the machine does not drift.

How the course is delivered

The course is led through structured explanation, worked examples, and documented case studies from manufacturing and production operations. Participants examine control charts, problem-solving analyses, and quality systems and discuss the decisions behind them, then relate each to their own operation. The course is educational and does not provide certification or assess any organization's compliance with the standards it references.

Who should attend

This course suits quality managers and engineers, production and operations supervisors, continuous improvement staff, and supplier quality professionals. It also helps managers who want quality to stop being a recurring cost and start being a strength. No advanced statistical background is assumed; the course explains the methods in practical terms.

About EuroQuest International Training

EuroQuest International Training was founded in 2015 by a team with more than 25 years of combined experience in professional training. The institute has delivered over 1,000 courses to more than 15,000 participants, and is headquartered in Bratislava, Slovakia, with training hubs in Dubai, London, Barcelona, Istanbul, Vienna, Paris, and Geneva. Courses are designed and reviewed by practitioners and updated to reflect current practice in each field.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between this and a Six Sigma course?

This course covers quality assurance broadly, including standards, process control, and quality culture, and it draws on lean and Six Sigma tools within that. A dedicated Six Sigma course goes deeper into one specific improvement methodology.

Do I need to be good at statistics?

No. The course explains statistical process control and capability in practical terms, focusing on how to use and interpret them on the floor, not the underlying mathematics.

Does the course certify our ISO 9001 compliance?

No. It references ISO 9001 as subject matter to explain sound quality management. It is educational and does not award a qualification or assess any organization's compliance.
